In 2016, Creaghan Harry first encountered the urgent needs of Children of the Sun, a small orphanage housing about 25 children, all of whom were born with HIV and had been abandoned. Despite the devoted care of a dedicated staff, the orphanage was facing severe financial difficulties. Creaghan’s visit made it clear that these children, who lacked both stability and hope, needed immediate support. He felt a profound connection and knew he had to act.
Determined to make a difference, Creaghan began financially supporting the orphanage to help cover essential needs such as food, electricity, and other daily expenses. His involvement went beyond mere financial assistance. Each visit to the orphanage was a time of joy and connection. Creaghan spent countless hours playing soccer, climbing trees, tossing the children in the air, and sharing meals and stories with them. The bond he formed with the children was strong, and they often clung to him, reluctant to let him leave.
Recognizing the need for more consistent, long-term connections, Creaghan decided to involve his company in a meaningful way. He launched an initiative inviting employees to become big brothers or big sisters to the children, with the essential requirement that these relationships would remain steadfast regardless of any changes in employment or personal circumstances. The response from employees was overwhelming, and they were matched with the children, creating a network of stable, supportive relationships.
This initiative proved transformative. The children flourished under the care of their new mentors, who provided consistent, nurturing connections. Creaghan Harry’s commitment to the Children of the Sun went far beyond financial support; it fostered a supportive community that offered the children hope and stability in their lives.
